Bachelor Degree Programs

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Are you looking into bachelor degree programs from a vocational school? While not all trade schools or community colleges offer bachelor degrees, a vocational training program or online school may be your stepping stone to a bachelor degree from a four-year college or university.

Bachelor degree programs usually require a minimum of 120 to 150 semester credit hours and are often divided into two main types - Bachelor of Arts (B.A. or A.B.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S. or B.Sc.), among others. Generally, the difference between associate degrees and bachelor degree programs is the time involved and course of study.

A few degree programs found at trade schools are geared toward credit transfer, and may include numerous fields of study, such as Accounting & Finance, Advertising, Art & Design, Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Information Technology (IT), Marketing & Sales, Paralegal, and many others.

Since most community colleges or 2-year institutions merely lay the foundation for students to achieve a bachelor's degree, current efforts are underway to prompt vocational training schools to offer bachelor degree programs (in addition to associate degrees, certificates and diplomas). However, there are a few vocational training schools that do currently provide bachelor degree programs in select courses of study, including Education, Information Technology (IT), and Nursing.

What Is an Online Associates Degree in Nursing Worth?

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

by Jane Hodgkins

An in Nursing (ADN) prepares you for further studies while you are still working. The associate's and the clinical experience that you acquire stand you in good stead when you decide to appear for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses . The is a two year course that allows you to become a registered nurse (RN) without having to acquire a bachelor's degree. It is not possible for everyone to devote time exclusively to studies and acquire a bachelor's degree. Hence an online ADN is a great way to traverse the RN-BSN path.

Even if you do not wish to acquire a BSN for the time being, becoming an RN after acquiring an online ADN itself is quite fulfilling. This is because with an ADN, it takes only two years to become a instead of four. A RN degree opens many career avenues and you can work in nursing homes, hospitals, and even insurance companies. Since a BSN degree is a pre requisite for a career boost in the nursing field, those desirous of management positions have to clear it. The RN-BSN way to a BSN degree is designed for working nurses; those who have obtained an online ADN and are now prepared for a career move.

You should ensure that the online associate degree in nursing program is approved by your state. You can estimate the worth of an online ADN by finding out the number of graduates from that course who become registered nurses. Look for accredited schools that offer an online ADN and have a healthy number of graduates doing the RN course. The worth of an online course will vary with the individual. You should look for a course that you can afford, it should fit in with your schedule, and you should hopefully get good vibes from the promotional material. Enquire about the faculty, it is important that the teachers provide learning with a flexibility that allows you to work and learn at the same time.

Jane Hodgkins recommends that you visit http://www.ondg.net/2005/12/online_associat.html for more information on getting anonline associates nursing degree.

St. John’s to offer nursing diploma

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

by Francis Tayanjah-Phiri, 10 January 2006 - 04:58:24

Mzuzu-based St. John’s Nursing School is introducing a Diploma in Nursing course to replace the Nursing/Midwife Technician Certificate it has been offering.
Mzuzu Catholic Diocese Health Board Chair Professor Peter Mwanza said in an interview during the graduation of 20 mid-wifely students at the institution that currently, the college was recruiting relevant staff and scaling-up its capacity to prepare for the change.
“Beginning April [this year], we will upgrade our courses. All entries into this college would be for diploma [in nursing and midwifery],” he said on Saturday.
He said it had become imperative to upgrade the status of the college to match with the present day demand of highly qualified medical and nursing personnel.
Mwanza, who presided over the graduation ceremony, urged the graduating students to brave the challenges being faced in the medical field in the country today.
Mwanza, who is also Vice Chancellor of Mzuzu University, said the graduation was significant because demand for nurses and midwives far exceeds supply in the country.
“In my own view, we are not training enough people in this area. Sadly, the population of Malawi is growing greatly. The situation is also being made worse by the high rate of HIV and Aids in the country which qualifies for the high need of nurses to care for the sick,” he said.
He described nurses and midwives as “a rare species which the country highly expects to be assisted from.”
During the graduation, 23-year-old Jean Gondwe was awarded for being the most outstanding student. She went home with assorted gifts from the St. John’s Nursing School management.
